I was born in Buka but lived in Bougainville for the majority of my childhood but now live in New Zealand. A friend of mine rang me up and told me about the book, it was on the news. I eventually went and bought the book and have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the story. It brought back so many wonderful memories of home.

an interesting review. Having read Mister pip shortly after readng Gret expectations, which i found very hard going and not an exciting read, i picked this bok up with some preconceptions which i was pleasently surprised to find were not true. i really enjoyed this book and found the story very compelling and similarly not about the horrors of war or broken families but “a love song to the power of the imagination and of storytelling. It shows how books can change lives.” a very true and acurate description.
