Anjali I'm very glad you like my northern story and indeed I would LOVE to be a professional traveler. *sigh* daydreaming...

Oh I'm not surprise about prison system (although I don't have information) and to be honest it sounds little scary. Not the fact that "criminals" are free but the idea looks kind of fanatic (you know like those religious fanatics incapable to see reality).

I was really surprise when getting entrance visa. Basically all I needed was a passport (plus normal documents) unlike for Spain or France, Germany where I wouldn't be surprised if they would ask rectal examination in the embassy! My Spanish friend told me that she's most afraid of that kind of system, that everything is smooth and sweet on its surface but you have no idea what's beneath. She told me that I will not see any policeman on the streets but I should be sure that I'm watched.
I'm not fond of theories of conspiracy and that kind of things but the fact is I did NOT see any policeman in Finland and I do think it's little scary and now your story about their prisons... it looks like science fiction *shrug*

Milan, I don't know where to begin!!!!!!!! I am indebted to you for putting down your experiences in Estonia and Finland here for us to read. It was informative, entertaining and, above all, grrreat fun...especially your account on Helsinki and the Finns. It told me so much about the place and the people, I almost felt I was there with you! You have such great observations and you tell them with so much wit that I wish you would think about going into travel writing as a profession. I would definitely pay to read your articles and/or books! I recently met an Indian girl who had just returned from a stint in Finland (her husband is an academic) and she also mentioned the weekend binges that most city people seem to indulge in. She was also concerned about teenage drinking and teenage pregnancies in that country. Also, I have been told that Finland's prison system is virtually non-existent? They believe more in rehabilitation than locking people up? Quite a refreshing view I must say, but does it work?

Can't wait to read parts 2 and 3!

Buf, I have a break in the middle of your text. It's very interesting. My girlfriend asks you what reppelent you used in Finland?, She has very important problems with mosquitos, and she has came from Dalmatia with a great deal of souvenirs in her skin, :)
Which was your feeling when you were speaking spanish with your guide? Did you feel fine? Maybe it's time to learn catalan :P

Wow, what a great entry! I love reading about Finland. You've spotted so many things here I never pay attention to--take our statues of naked men, for example :-) All perfectly normal...

You should definitely come back in the winter so we could take you skinny-dipping through a hole in the ice after sauna. I love the feeling, a couple of years back I went almost every weekend. It really is a heavenly experience; take that from someone who absolutely hates cold water and doesn't otherwise swim outdoors :-)

Looking forward to reading more of your journey now!

I love the blog entry and look forward reading the others as well. It was really nice to meet you, next time I'm better prepaired ;) We actually greated with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. I remember this since I panickly thought while seeing you approach me "darn, darn, darn, is it usually one, two or three kisses and which cheek you should start with. goosh, I can't remember. Same as in the UK, two kisses? Okay, here we go..." :D
